Learn What You Should Know About The Fonejacker

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Since 2006, the Fonejacker has been making people laugh through its groundbreaking approach to prank calls, and society’s obsession with call centers. Though a full series of its own did not appear in Britain until a year after its debut, the worldwide phenomenon continues to grow.

Created by, and starring Kayvan Novak, the program simply parodies phone calls made in modern day life; but with hilarious consequences from the witty and cleverly executed scripts which are used. That the prank calls are place to members of the public just going about their daily lives and in the workplace adds to its appeal.

The Fonejacker himself is somewhat of a failed terrorist in many ways; or at least that is how he is portrayed complete with “bobble hat”; a beanie with a pom-pom, and a pair of large aviator sunglasses.

He is pictured using phones in a whole host of places, but it is in the characters he plays and the guises he uses to portray them on screen that the real magic happens.

Possibly the most popular character, (or perhaps infamous would be a better description), is George Agdgdgwngo. Clearly inspired by the legions of con artists that seem to be based many African countries, George isn’t quite the full ticket for such a scam.

Trying to scam people out of their bank details, claiming he will wire their eighty pounds of winnings immediately, doesn’t quite cut it. Nor does his tales of a bird stuck in the bank vault do much to convince people to part with their account numbers. It is simply riotous as he fails, but remains so polite and apologetic.

Another excellent mimicry of today’s society is shown by the caller from Sub-Continental based Internet Service Providings. A clearly young and nervous call center worker is charged with the task of getting new customers.

Desperately trying to get people to upgrade their ‘internet service providings’ or ‘mobile phonings’ he is confident the deal he can do you is better. However, the prices offered are ridiculous and the worst you could ever wish to find. The whole call gets even better if people complain, and are put through to the manager. This really is priceless humor, snatches of which so many people will be familiar with.

There are more than 20 characters played in the Fonejacker; all as good as the next. When you watch, look out for the mouse which takes the whole concept to another level. Superb!
