Throughout his life, Trotsky continues to be a political activist and in 1918 he became the leader of the dissolving Red Army in their fight against the Germans and during the Russian civil war. In 1925, Trotsky went through some hardships. He lost his Red Army post and spent the winter and spring unemployed.

In 1940 in his Mexico home, Trotsky found his end with an ice pick to the skull by agent Ramon Mercader.
