If you are planning on purchasing a pool table, then you will need to decide what size table will best fit in the room that you have. What may appear to be a large room when empty may be found to not be adequate for the largest of pool tables. This guide will help you to choose the table that will work best in your room.
Many times people make the mistake of choosing a table by its outside dimensions. The size of the actual playing surface is more important in matching the table to the room size. By choosing a table that allows for the correct length of pool cues, you will automatically have plenty of room for walking around the new table.
There are two features that must be considered in choosing a pool table for a room. These are the playing surface and the length of the pool cue. Forty eight inch cues take much less room than fifty eight inch cues.
A seven foot table has a playing are of 38 inches by 76 inches. This means that for 48 inch pool cues, you need a room size of no smaller than 11′3″ by 14′6″. For the larger pool cues you will need a room that is 12′11″ by 16′2″.
For an eight foot pool table the room size increases to between eleven feet eight inches by fifteen feet four inches to thirteen feet six inches by seventeen feet four inches. Once again the smaller size only allows for forty eight inch cues while the larger size allows for the fifty eight inch cues.
If you choose the even larger nine foot table, your room should be between 12′2″ by 16′4″ and 13′10″ by 18′. Once again, the smaller size room will require use of 48 inch cues while the larger one will allow use of the 58 inch cues.
Once you have determined the size table that will fit into your room comfortably, then you should choose the largest table that will fit into the room. This will make your pool game more challenging. In addition, the larger table will be the most proportionate to your room.
While you will find many other important considerations in choosing a pool table, choosing the correct size is important in getting a table that can easily be played in the size room that you have. This choice may rule out many of the other choices you have in the table that you choose for your room.
